PRSSA presented Hollywood Under the Oaks Friday through Sunday with keynote speaker Lauren Berger held on Sunday. Berger is best known for her name the “Intern Queen”, but behind the name is a different story that could lead you down a path of success.
“Your job is to get a job, so you should be spending six to eight hours a day thinking about out-of-the-box ways to get that job. Is it setting informational interviews? Is it going after alumni from your school?” Berger said.
Berger spoke to students about landing a top-notch job by taking the first step with internships while in college.
According to Lauren, easy steps such as researching on the company, calling for interviews and emailing resumes within 24 hours can make you stand out from other students applying for internships.
LSU junior, Alli Bixler attended the event. Bixler said she left the event feeling positive about her future career advancements.
“I think her most crucial information to take away was the follow-up three times a year with contacts cause that’s how it helped her land a real job, so I think that was pretty informative, and I will definitely take that away from her,” Bixler said.
Berger continued the event saying rejections will come when finding a job, but one should take a risk and put you out into the world. Never take no for an answer. The power of success will come in the future.
“What are you going to do today that’s going to help you get that job?” Berger said.
