The LSU women’s tennis team’s first midweek match of the season couldn’t come at a better time.
In the midst of a three-match losing streak, No. 54 LSU (9-10, 2-8 Southeastern Conference) looks to get back on track in its home stretch of the season as the Lady Tigers take a break from conference play to face Tulane (4-17) today in W.T. “Dub” Robinson Stadium.
The 3 p.m. match was previously scheduled for Feb. 26 but was postponed until today because of rain. LSU coach Julia Sell said the contest provides a much-needed buffer between SEC opponents as the Lady Tigers approach the end of an up-and-down season.
The Tulane match is the first of a five-match home stand before the Lady Tigers head to Columbia, Mo. for the SEC Championships on April 16. After losing its last two road contests of the season over the weekend, being able to prepare for the conference tournament on familiar ground in Baton Rouge will prove beneficial for LSU, Sell said.
With a young team, gaining confidence and staying healthy are Sell’s primary concerns for the Lady Tigers at this juncture in the season, she said.
And with a 2-7 record in the month of March, LSU hopes Wednesday’s match can be the kick start to a more successful April.
