Last night Spanish Moon was in perfect form. For a Tuesday night there was no lack of enthusiasm. With many show goer’s commenting about how they had purchased tickets months in advance the anticipation was palpable, making up for the lack of a fully sold out show.
Holy Child took the stage first. Heralding from Los Angeles, California this duo brought high, high energy and some energetic beats. The crowd was whipped into a frenzy of movers and shakers as we tried to copy the perfect hip swinging magic of lead singer, Liz Nistico. Other half, Louie Diller, manned drums, a keyboard, a mix board, and vocals. The two were also accompanied by two auxiliary drummers, for a clash of perfectly pop-y high energy beats. The crowd was treated to several new songs off their latest work. Overall Holy Child’s performance was the perfect opening before MØ took stage.
Hailing from Denmark, MØ (Karen Marie Ørsted) took the stage in all of her crop-top-leather-skirt-scruchie wearing glory. With little introduction she launched right into song. The stage was set with a backdrop looping video of MØ dancing around, which she supplemented with further dancing and crooning lyrics. Her vocal style conjured up similarities to Lana Del Rey while her fun Electro Indie Pop beats weren’t a far cry from similar sounds like Grimes and Twin Shadows. She descended into the crowd for three separate songs and the entire floor danced with the singer as she swayed and bumped with each person she came in contact with. MØ gave us a great show, performing up beat beloved tracks like Glass, but also slowing it down with numbers like Gone and Found and Slow Love. She ended on a stellar performance of Don’t Wanna Dance and ended her set for the evening.
All in all the evening was a complete success and show goers were anything but disappointed. Both bands put on a great show and exuded an energy I wish I could muster up every day of the week.
