For the first time in over 20 years, the Mississippi State Bulldogs left Baton Rouge with a win over LSU. After leading the game 34-10 early in the fourth quarter, LSU clawed their way back to within five.
But the rally was too late and Mississippi State held on for the 34-29 upset win.
“The good news is this team is going to fight,” LSU head coach Les Miles said. “I was proud of the back end of that game.”
MSU quarterback Dak Prescott ran all over the LSU defense, gaining a total of 570 yards. The Tigers seemed flustered all night long and were not able to generate anything on either side of the ball.
“When you suffer a loss like this a lot of guys wanna start pointing fingers,” LSU runningback Terrence Magee said. “That’s not going to happen with this team.”
LSU freshman quarterback Brandon Harris came in late in the game and led a furious LSU comeback that fell just short, possibly opening up a new quarterback controversy.
“When he got in he stepped in the position as he was the starter,” LSU wide receiver Travin Dural said. “He made a lot of plays and I commend him for that.”
LSU opens as a 47-point favorite next week against New Mexico State.
