The 11th edition of KLSU’s Spring ’14 Magical Mystery Tour, airing Wednesday April 23rd, 2014 8 PM CST, will present soul and jazz poet Gil Scott-Heron.
The “Godfather of Rap”, Heron’s 1970’s jazz polemics served as a portent of conscious rap, poetry slam, and acid jazz. His satirical edge, a political voice with a poet’s skill, shared a social consciousness with the Gaye and Mayfield militant soul of the era. Producing a collection of powerful, soulful, pervasive works in that time, his most impactful “Winter In America” served as one of the definitive voices of the African-American experience.
