LSU baseball shutout North Dakota State 7-0 Wednesday at Alex Box Stadium, its last game before SEC play.
Head coach Jay Johnson once again chose to pitch via committee with seven pitchers making appearances. The approach aims to maintain fresh arms for the weekend when the Tigers begin SEC play against Mississippi State.
LSU put up three runs in the first inning, off just one hit. An overthrow, a hit-by-pitch and three walks handed the Tigers the lead early.

NDSU walked seven batters and hit two throughout the game. It used eight pitchers.
Through the next three innings, the first at bat reached base but resulted in no runs for the Tigers. LSU had eight runners left on base by batters by the end of the game.
After a cold sequence of missed opportunities, LSU put up two in the fifth from a Jared Jones double and Josh Pearson sacrifice fly.
Mac Bingham, who started as leadoff hitter, hit a two-run home run over the left field fence in the sixth.
Bingham shined at leadoff, going 2-for-4 with a hit-by-pitch, two RBI and a home run.
Jones continued to be difficult on pitchers with his patience and power. He went 1-for-1 with a double, an RBI and two walks.
Of the six pitchers, Christian Little threw the most innings at 2.1, he allowed one hit and struck out four batters. His fastball proved difficult for NDSU.

Despite just 1.2 innings, Griffin Herring looked strong as the starter. Impressive control struck out two batters and allowed just one hit.
As a whole, the staff allowed three hits and tallied 13 strikeouts.
After the game, Jay Johnson explained how today showed how in tune the team is with what it takes to win.
“Just keep making pitches, playing defense, eventually somebody will hit a two-run homer or eventually the other team will mess up,” Jay Johnson said.
Despite some missed opportunities, LSU came away with the 7-0 win over NDSU thanks to patient offense and consistent committee pitching.
The Tigers now switch their focus to SEC play, starting with a trip to Mississippi State this weekend. The 3-game series lasts from Friday to Sunday.
First pitch for the series opener is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday evening and will be streaming live on SEC Network+.
