Baseball season is getting closer, and scrimmages are resuming at Alex Box Stadium. Students are on the edge of their seats waiting for the Tigers to take the field yet again. After a phenomenal season last year, LSU baseball has a lot of fans, new and old, who are excited to see how the team can possibly outdo itself this year.
Have you ever imagined what it would be like to walk on that field yourself? We asked LSU students which song they would use for that first walk-up debut.
“Northern Attitude” by Noah Kahan and Hozier
Junior English major Claire Rotolo heard Hozier’s vocals in the re-release of “Northern Attitude” by Noah Kahan, and she knew there was no other choice.
“I would only play the part with Hozier screaming right after the second verse. In the most real way possible, the song just slays,” Rotolo said. “Like imagine walking up to Hozier screaming!”

“Do I Wanna Know?” by the Arctic Monkeys
Jacob McCann, an LSU senior majoring in ISDS, chose “Do I Wanna Know?” by the Arctic Monkeys.
“The band is one of my favorite bands,” he said. “It has a great guitar intro and reminds me of the rock music my dad would play in the car when I was a kid.”
“Legend” by The Score
The Score was the first thing that came to Kayla Ford’s mind. The senior theater performance major chose a dance/electronic song to add to the list.
“It has a really amazing beginning beat that gives me the feeling that I am strong and can do anything I want,” Ford said.

“Touch the Sky” by Kanye West
Sophomore Trey McCann chose a rap addition to the list. McCann feels it takes more than choosing your favorite song.
“It’s a good walk-up song for baseball,” McCann said. He plans on attending the LSU Vet school and hopes to play some Kanye for all the animals.
“Golden” by Harry Styles
Senior Digital Advertising student Skye Reynolds insisted on “Golden” by Harry Styles.
“I am probably his biggest fan ever,” Reynolds said. “Since it came out, it became the song that gets me ready for the day. I listen to it in the morning on the way to school every single day.”
“Grove St. Party” by Waka Flocka Flame
Jada Souvannasy uses “Grove St. Party” by Waka Flocka Flame to get pumped up. She chose this song because it is upbeat.
“When I think of a walk-up song, I always think of a song that will get people excited for an at bat.”
“Let’s Get Loud” by Jennifer Lopez
If Edie Sanders, a graphic design junior, had to choose a walk-out song, it would have to be “Let’s Get Loud” by Jennifer Lopez.
“It’s a song that would get the crowd going, and it’s honestly iconic,” Sanders pointed out. “I love JLO and personally, I feel like it’s a popular sports song too!”
“Let’s Groove” by Earth, Wind, and Fire
When Melanie Hasenkampf, a senior, was playing softball in high school, “Let’s Groove” by Earth, Wind, and Fire was her walk-up song. She says she would also use it if she needed to walk-out onto the Alex Box Stadium.
“I wanted to have a walk-up song that the parents would know. Plus, the song is just so good!” Hasenkampf said.

“Wings” by Little Mix
Freshman architecture student Emma Jimenez chose “Wings” by Little Mix since it had the most memories for her.
“It talks about how you can’t let words affect you or what you do,” Jimenez said. “For me, the song is something I can definitely relate to, especially when it mentions the ‘mom’ because my mom has always been my number one supporter no matter what.”
“I Don’t Dance” or “Bet on It” by Zac Efron
The High School Musical soundtrack was bound to make the list for Caitie Brumfield, a senior majoring in nursing. She said she would want to hear the beginnings of “I Don’t Dance” or “Bet on It”, because they’re very intimidating songs.
