Former LSU pitcher Gage Jump was drafted by the Oakland Athletics with the 73rd pick of day one of the MLB Draft on Sunday.
Jump formed a lethal starting pitching duo for the Tigers with Luke Holman, who was also drafted on Sunday.
As he takes the step to the next level, he’ll join his college teammate, Tommy White, who was drafted with the 40th pick to Oakland earlier on Sunday.
In his one season at LSU, Jump put up a 6-2 record, a 3.47 ERA and 101 strikeouts across 15 starts.
Prior to transferring at LSU, Jump competed at UCLA for two years. In his freshman year, he was a valuable pitcher who emerged as a starter before a Tommy John injury ended his season and kept him from playing during his sophomore season.
Jump was also drafted in the 2021 MLB Draft by the San Diego Padres in the 18th round, but passed up the opportunity to play three years of college baseball.
