The College Football Playoff committee announced its initial CFP rankings on Tuesday’s live ESPN CFP ranking reveal, with LSU coming in at No. 14.
LSU has a record of 6-2 so far this season, with losses to Florida State, who was No. 4 in the CFP rankings, and Ole Miss, who was No. 10.
The Tigers’ Saturday opponent, Alabama, came in at No. 8. Other SEC schools represented were No. 2 Georgia, No. 12 Missouri, who LSU has previously beaten, and No. 17 Tennessee.
LSU is ranked highest among the country’s two-loss teams.
The CFP rankings are determined by a committee of 13 members from varying school affiliations. The rankings ultimately have the final say in which four teams appear in the CFP in January and compete to advance to the national championship.
The ranking is a downgrade from the Tigers’ ranking of No. 13 in both the AP poll and the AFCA Coaches’ poll, announced earlier this week.
