Mr. James Richards arguments sound reasonable. But they are specious. As a simple analogy consider the person who will not fly because of their fear of dying in a plane who therefore drives a motorcycle from LSU to New York. One does not even have to look up the odds to understand what they have done is substitute a very ( at least relatively ) dangerous means of transportation for a much safer one. The reason is obvious. If the paper reported world wide deaths from motorcycle accidents there would not be room for anything else. Even close calls in commercial aviation are so rare each one is reported. My dad’s cousin died when his gun discharged while he was cleaning it. This had only very local news value. But for his family it was just as traumatic as if he were killed by a terrorist.
