The LSU softball team moved up two spots to No. 5 in this week’s NFCA rankings after sweeping last weekend’s Purple & Gold Challenge at Tiger Park.
The Tigers (21-0) set a new mark for the best start by any sports team in LSU history, surpassing the 1997 LSU baseball team’s 19-0 record.
LSU outscored its opponents 57-8 across five games last weekend, picking up wins against Ball State, Florida Atlantic, Northwestern State and Stephen F. Austin twice. Four of the five games were stopped early due to the mercy rule. Ball State was the only team that forced the Tigers to play the full seven innings.
LSU hosts Northwestern State tonight at Tiger Park at 6 p.m. before Southeastern Conference play starts with Arkansas traveling to Baton Rouge this weekend.
