The No. 16 Kentucky softball team defeated No. 1 LSU, 5-2, in Game 2 to claim this weekend’s series in Lexington, Kentucky.
The Tigers (31-3, 5-3 Southeastern Conference) suffered back-to-back defeats for the first time since dropping consecutive contests to McNeese State and Georgia in April 2014. The two losses to the Wildcats (23-8, 3-5 SEC) resulted in LSU’s first series loss of the season.

LSU responded immediately in the top of the third. An RBI double from junior shortstop Bianka Bell leveled the score, 1-1. Junior catcher Kellsi Kloss drove in the second run of the inning with an RBI single to give LSU a 2-1 lead.
The Wildcats tied the score, 2-2, in the bottom of the fifth when senior center fielder A.J. Andrews’ throw to third base got away, allowing junior outfielder Sylver Samuel to touch home on the error.
The Wildcats pushed three runs across in the bottom of the sixth to reclaim the lead, 5-2, two of the runs coming on an error and a hit by pitch. The Wildcats then retired LSU in the top of the seventh to win the series.
The Tigers stranded 11 baserunners on the day and the left the bases loaded in back-to-back innings.
