LSU senior center fielder A.J. Andrews earned Southeastern Conference Player of the Week honors for the first time in her career after posting lofty numbers at this weekend’s Purple and Gold Challenge.
The conference announced Monday that Andrews would be receiving the award, making her the second LSU player in as many weeks to receive the honor. The SEC selected sophomore Sahvanna Jaquish last week.
Andrews hit .909 across LSU’s five games this weekend. She recorded 10 hits in 11 at-bats, including three triples and a double. She finished the weekend with 13 RBI, including a career-high six RBI outing in the Tigers’ 14-0 win Stephen F. Austin on Sunday.
Andrews stole seven bases on seven attempts and drew seven walks. Her efforts at the plate translated into a 1.545 slugging percentage and a .895 on-base percentage.
LSU hosts Northwestern State at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday at Tiger Park.
