Senior Madelene Sagstrom and the rest of the No. 7 LSU women’s golf team wrapped up their best round of golf this season on Saturday at the University Club.
The Lady Tigers set multiple records in flawless weather conditions to take a commanding lead during the second round of the LSU Tiger Golf Classic. LSU finished the first two rounds with a team score of 577, 1-over par, which was bolstered mainly by Saturday’s single-round record score of 8-under par, 280.
The score for the day surpasses the former course record of 287 from Arkansas, which Mississippi State replaced with a 285 midway through Day 2 of the tournament.
Sagstrom, an Enkoping, Sweden native, had her parents, Per and Lena Sagstrom, in attendance today for the round and the succeeding ceremonial senior activities.
“I play better when people are watching,“ Sagstrom said. “I like to give a good show, and I know it’s fun. And I behave better.”
Sagstrom tied the single round course record of 67, 5-under par for the day. She surpassed herself as owner of the lowest two-round score in course history at 140 since its renovation in 2010.
The Lady Tigers will face stronger winds in the final round Sunday, hoping to maintain their first-place position at the tournament’s conclusion.
“We have to go out there and play our game,” said LSU coach Karen Bahnsen. “We are not going to be scoreboard watching. We just have to go out there and play golf.”
