Nearly two years after LSU President F. King Alexander filled the position the LSU Board of Supervisors were searching for, the board’s attorney turned over the names of three applicants considered for the LSU System president position in 2012.
The three other applicants were East Carolina University Chancellor Steven Ballard, former Texas A&M University president Richard Loftin — who is now University of Missouri’s chancellor — and former University of Alabama chancellor Malcolm Portera.
The board’s attorney, Jimmy Faircloth, said the three names were determined as applicants by the court of appeals along with Alexander.
In 2013, former Daily Reveille editor-in-chief Andrea Gallo sued the LSU Board of Supervisors for violating public records laws and refusing to turn over the names of applicants. Nola.com, The Times Picayune and The Advocate soon followed suit for the records.
The legal battle ended when the Louisiana Supreme Court denied to hear The Advocate and The Times Picayune’s lawsuit against the LSU Board of Supervisors on April 17.
