The No. 7 LSU softball team continued its undefeated season with a 12-4 win against Florida Atlantic on Saturday afternoon in Tiger Park.
FAU (15-3) took control early, capitalizing on two LSU errors to grab a 1-0 lead in the first inning. However, the Owls’ lead didn’t last long.
LSU (19-0) scored six runs in the bottom of the second inning and never looked back. The Tigers recorded three hits in the inning and took advantage of three wild pitches and several fielding blunders to take a 6-1 lead after two innings.
The Owls managed to get a run back in the third inning and two in the fifth to cut LSU’s lead to 6-4.
However, LSU added three runs in the fifth and three runs in the sixth, including a two-run home run to center field from junior catcher Kellsi Kloss to defeat the Owls, 12-4, by the mercy rule.
Freshman pitcher Allie Walljasper pitched a complete game, allowing seven hits and striking out eight. Five errors by LSU’s defense meant the four runs Walljasper allowed were all unearned.
The teams combined for eight errors, and 10 of the game’s 16 runs were unearned.
LSU finishes its doubleheader with a game against Northwestern State at 9:20 p.m. at Tiger Park.
