The No. 14 LSU softball team set a new mark for the best start in program history with its 10-2 win against Nebraska in five innings.
The Tigers (15-0) exploded for 10 runs in top of the first inning, and that lead was more than enough for freshman pitcher Allie Walljasper (6-0).
Five walks and five hits allowed LSU to build its 10-0 lead in the first inning. Junior shortstop Bianka Bell capped the scoring in the inning with a three-run home run to right field, her sixth of the season.
The Tigers didn’t record another hit the rest of the game, but the Huskers (5-7) were only able to get two runs back in the bottom of the third and cut the lead to 10-2.
Walljasper was able to keep Nebraska’s lineup in check for most of the game. The freshman allowed five hits and two runs, striking out six and walking none on 74 pitches.
LSU completes play at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic with a game against Northwestern at 7 p.m.
