LSU Athletic Director Joe Alleva announced LSU coach Les Miles will remain as the Tigers head coach after LSU’s 19-7 win against Texas A&M on Saturday.
“We will win championships, together,” Alleva said.
“He’s the best coach I ever had,” said junior defensive end Louis Neal. “I wouldn’t have the opportunities I have without him. Nobody should go through that. We had to come out strong for him.”
Miles followed Alleva on the podium and said LSU President F. King Alexander and Alleva told him he will coach the Tigers indefinitely after Saturday’s game.
“It’s nice to be the coach at LSU. Nice for them to say hey, the job you’ve been doing, you can keep doing it,” Miles said.
The Tigers’ victory advanced Miles’ career record at LSU to 111-32. Miles’ .776 winning percentage is the highest in LSU history.
LSU players hoisted Miles and walked him off the field, a moment Miles called “very special.”
Junior linebacker Kendell Beckwith said he was “happy as ever” Miles would return as LSU’s head coach.
“It was a big win for the team tonight. That one was for coach,” Beckwith said. “I’m happy as ever. Looking forward to him being our coach.”
