After No. 2 LSU’s 45-24 win against South Carolina on Oct. 10, which was relocated to Baton Rouge, sophomore running back Leonard Fournette promised to auction his jersey for the victims of severe flooding in South Carolina earlier that week.
Now, with the NCAA’s approval, that promise will come to fruition.
Beginning on Saturday at 7:00 a.m. CT, 12 hours before the Tigers take the field against No. 4 Alabama, bidding for the signed Fournette jersey will be available at www.LSUauction.net, the LSU athletic department announced via news release Tuesday evening.
With a starting bid at $7,000, the jersey, which will be sold “as is,” will accompany an autographed LSU helmet from LSU coach Les Miles and a South Carolina helmet signed by former Gamecock coach Steve Spurrier.
Both the LSU helmet, which was an alternative white helmet, and the white South Carolina helmet were worn in the game. The auctioned items will come with a notarized letter of authenticity.
The auction will officially close on Nov. 9 at 11:00 a.m. CT.
“Having been through a similar situation with my family during Hurricane Katrina when I was 10 years old, this is something that I wanted to do to help those in need,” Fournette said in the news release. “The generosity of people helped my family make it through Hurricane Katrina. I’m hopeful that the money raised with this auction can make a difference for those flood victims in South Carolina.”
