Why did you decide to run for homecoming court?
“When I was a freshman I knew that I wanted to be on homecoming court, but I wanted to wait until I was a senior. I wanted to make sure I got my honors and accomplishments and internships, and I wanted to make sure I was involved on campus. I wanted to feel qualified for the position and be a good representative for LSU and the Manship School of Mass Communication.”
What makes LSU special to you?
“LSU has provided me with so many opportunities. Because of LSU and the Manship School I feel prepared to go out into the world and excel, both personally and professionally. I’ve had six internships and have been able to maintain a 4.0 GPA, and I’m working on my honors thesis now. Because of LSU I could study abroad and be director of ImPRint Communications at the LSU student-run public relations firm. LSU has provided me with the ability to do all of these things.”
What has your LSU experience been like?
“My college experience has been dedicated to trying to figure out what I want to do for the rest of my life. I am a firm believer in ‘if you do something you love, you’ll never work a day in your life.’ That’s what I am aiming to find. Being the director of ImPRint Communications has led me to want to own my own business. This would not have been possible without getting involved in the Manship School and getting internships. My experience has been eye opening and I believe that because of it I know I have found the right major and I am going into the right field for me.”
What is your favorite LSU memory?
“Every year I have a different memory that is my favorite, but my favorite overall is being a speaker for Kickoff LSU. High school juniors and seniors come into the Union Theater and I get to tell them about my college experience. I always tell them that these have been the best four years of my life. Just being on stage and greeting those students, I remember when I was in their seats and I had no idea what college had prepared for me. I just let them know that anything is possible and that they can be in my position, running for homecoming court when they become LSU Tigers.”
What do you hope to give back to the campus community?
“Being able to share my experience with LSU and the Manship School and letting people know that a college degree is obtainable. I am the first person in my family to go to college, and I have been able to be a member of the honors college, maintain a 4.0 GPA, and be a successful minority female student. I want people to know that if you invest in yourself and your future, the world can be yours.”
Why did you decide to come to LSU?
“I have to admit I was nervous. I am from the small town of New Iberia, Louisiana, and came from a graduating class of 89 students. I was worried that LSU was going to be so big and that I would never be able to stand out or get involved. But once I got here and took the campus tour and met professors, I felt that they wanted me to succeed. I knew this was the place for me so I cancelled every other campus tour that I had scheduled because I knew LSU won.”
What’s your favorite class?
“My favorite class is an elective. It is the internship class offered by the Manship School which let me have a paid internship in each of my years from freshman to senior. These internships let me apply what I had learned in all of my classes. It is one thing to sit in class and listen to lectures, but when you are out in the field and your supervisors are giving you positive feedback, it reinforces that you are in the right field.”
What’s your favorite tailgate food?
“I am going to keep it simple and say [Raising] Cane’s chicken fingers with the special sauce. That sauce is so good.”
Who’s your favorite LSU athlete?
“With it being football season and being the last undefeated team in the SEC, I have to give Leonard Fournette credit where it is due.”
What’s your favorite sport?
“My favorite sport is volleyball, but since I got here I have been enjoying watching gymnastics. I interned with the office of marketing and promotions so I got to work with all of the athletics. Gymnastics has stood up there as one of my favorite sports here.”
