A man was arrested and booked on terrorizing charges Tuesday night near the LSU Barnes and Noble Bookstore and Union Square Parking Garage.
Richard Aaron Bee, 21, of Mandeville, Louisiana was arrested by LSUPD officers, sending off a campus emergency text in the area, said LSU Media Relations director Ernie Ballard.
After an LSU emergency alert misreported an armed robbery, students were advised to avoid the Union Square Parking Garage and LSU Barnes and Noble Bookstore Tuesday night.
The emergency notification to students included the subject line “INCIDENT 03: Armed Robbery” and urged students to stay clear of the area and said police secured the premises around 8:30 p.m.
Later, Ballard said the incident was not an armed robbery.
“That was a glitch in the text message and was not intended to be the message,” Ballard said.
Ballard said LSUPD received information from West Baton Rouge Parish 911 about a threat on campus. Later, a suspect was taken into custody by LSUPD officers. The investigation is still ongoing.
The emergency alert email following the text message failed to clear the subject line and restated incorrect information from the previous message.
