For the second consecutive week, the LSU football team has two players among the Southeastern Conference Players of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Sophomore running back Leonard Fournette was named SEC Co-Offensive Player of the Week with Georgia quarterback Greyson Lambert, and senior offensive tackle Vadal Alexander was chosen as the league’s Offensive Lineman of the Week.
Fournette was the sole SEC Offensive Player of the Week last week after his performance in the Tigers’ opening game against Mississippi State, during which he rushed for 159 yards on 28 carries and three touchdowns.
The second-year tailback topped those rushing yards in less than three quarters of football against Auburn on Saturday, finishing with 228 yards on 19 carries and three more touchdowns. His 228 yards were 22 yards shy of the LSU single-game rushing record set by Alley Broussard on Nov. 20, 2004 against Ole Miss.
Alexander joins junior center Ethan Pocic with the weekly offensive lineman honor after LSU’s second contest. The 6-foot-6, 329-pound tackle totaled 13 knockdowns on 65 snaps, according to the league’s website. Alexander also helped spring LSU’s rushing attack to 411 total rushing yards without allowing sophomore quarterback Brandon Harris to be sacked.
