Revenge was best served hot Saturday afternoon in Death Valley. With temperatures on the field climbing north of 120 degrees, the LSU Tigers avenged last year’s loss with a 45-21 throttling for the No. 18 ranked Auburn Tigers.
“We came with it on our minds.” said LSU sophomore runningback Leonard Fournette. “You talk trash coming into our house, then we have to defend our house at the end of the day.”
Fournette was the star for LSU, rushing for 228 yards on 19 carries with three touchdowns in the game. In front of Fournette, sophomore quarterback Brandon Harris exorcised demons from last year’s game with 140 all-purpose yards, adding on three touchdowns as well.
“He managed the game, he managed the clock, the situations that we asked him to operate for us with time bearing down on him. He did a great job.” LSU head coach Les Miles said.
After back-to-back SEC wins to start the year, the Tigers are confident sitting at 2-0. But also realize that there is still a very long road to go.
“We’re doing a great job,” said Fournette. “Especially throughout the week, preparation, we’re busting our tails each and every day.”
LSU heads to upstate New York next Saturday for an early 11 AM kickoff against Syracuse in the Carrier Dome.
