Edward Scissorhands is one of those cult classics from childhood that if you haven’t seen, you are surely missing out.
As a film directed by Tim Burton, one can expect a darker undertone mixed with pleasing, artistic settings and effects.
Winona Ryder and Johnny Depp star, playing the ultimate cult couple despite being plucked from two contrasting backgrounds: Ryder as a dainty suburban girl named Kim, and Depp as Edward Scissorhands, an inventor’s half-finished creation.
Ryder’s innocence in the film comes through her outfits more than her actions, and there are several statement pieces she uses to create this.
With overalls becoming more of a statement, this look would be easy to recreate. Just find a flowy, sleeved shirt to colorblock with your choice of overalls or a skirt with matching suspenders. Throw in matching socks and Converse and you’re set.
For this look, pair a boyfriend style button down with a straight denim skirt. The possibilities are endless as you can switch up the colors and patterns.
This look is actually a matching crop top and bottom combo, which could easily be a do-it-yourself project. Head to your closest vintage store to find an oversized dress to cut up.
If that’s too much of a hassle, focus on finding pieces in the same or a similar print or color and pair them.
The key to pulling off Ryder’s ensembles is to keep it simple. Put more emphasis on the outfit than the accessories and you’re set.
