NEW ORLEANS (AP) – A convicted felon who pleaded guilty to illegally obtaining an assault rifle at a Kenner gun show has been sentenced to more than four years in prison. Federal prosecutors say 23-year-old Kena James purchased the rifle in June at a gun show for 26-year-old Hilton Fluker, a convicted felon prohibited from owning a firearm.
U.S. District Judge Helen Berrigan sentenced Fluker, an Avondale resident, on Wednesday to 50 months in prison. She sentenced James, also of Avondale, to three months of home detention with electronic monitoring.
The case stems from an investigation last June by federal agents and local law-enforcement officers at the Great Southern Gun and Knife Show at the Pontchartrain Center in Kenner.
