The Baton Rouge Metro Council unanimously approved a request for funding that benefits events such as White Lights Night and the upcoming Hot Art, Cool Nights.
The panel granted Mid-City Merchants $5,000 for each of these two artful events.
One of the main supporters of this funding notion is Councilwoman Alison Gary. She said she endorses the cause because of the good return investment it’s provided in past years. Gary believes the events put on by Mid-City Merchants helps to sustain Mid-City through the uniting of local businesses. The council approved funding for the affairs last year as well.
The money helps to finance advertising expenses and Government street buses for patrons, according to Gary. She explained that the funds will aim to draw more people to these culturally rich downtown attractions. Mid-City Merchants will be hosting the Hot Art, Cool Nights on Friday, May 11.
