The LSU men’s tennis team completed their home opener in style, beating Clemson 5-2, including sweeping the doubles matches.
In doubles play, Olivier Borsos and Chris Simpson overcame a 5-1 deficit to win 8-5.
Neil Skuspki said the dominating doubles performance motivated the Tigers. “We took that momentum into singles,” he said.
Coach Jeff Brown echoed Skupski’s sentiment, and added that going into singles, “there’s a difference between having to win three and having to win four… It makes a big difference.”
In singles play, James Turberville got the Tigers started with a 6-1, 6-3 victory. Skupski added a 6-4, 6-0 victory and Tom Knights clinched the victory for the Tigers, winning 6-4, 6-4. Stefan Szacinski won two tiebreakers, 7-6, 7-6, to give the Tigers a bigger lead.
Brown said that the match was closer than the score said and that LSU, “played a good match today against a good Clemson team.”
The Tigers travel north to Michigan to play the Wolverines Saturday at 5:00 pm.
