BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — A 19-year-old Baton Rouge man has pleaded guilty to manslaughter and armed robbery charges in the 2010 killing of a 20-year-old woman and was sentenced to 70 years in prison.
Prosecutor Larry McAlpine told The Advocate that Fready Stelly was accused of shooting Brittni Boatner on July 2, 2010, and taking a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer, television, computer and pistol from her home. McAlpine says Stelly admitted to having sex with Boatner before shooting her and flushing a condom down the toilet.
Boatner’s parents and her godmother spoke before District Judge Chip Moore sentenced Stelly on Tuesday.
The victim’s mother, Ramona Boatner, says Stelly’s action has “left a scar on my memory forever.”
Boatner’s father, Aaron Boatner, tearfully asked just one question in his victim impact statement: “Why?”
