Georgia hit its season high Jan. 28.
Arkansas reached its program high Jan. 20.
On Friday, Florida acheived the nation-high tally to break the Lady Tigers’ hearts.
The No. 14 LSU gymnastics squad (2-7, 2-3 Southeastern Conference) set its own season high in a 197.850-196.850 loss Friday to the No. 4 Gators (7-1, 3-1 SEC) in Gainesville, Fla.
Each of LSU’s three losses since the disastrous, campaign-opening Cancun Classic has come by way of season bests from opponents.
The Gators’ score was the highest for any program this season thus far, overshadowing the Lady Tigers’ resilient performance.
“It was a hard meet because our girls were a little tired, but they fought through it to perform well,” LSU coach D-D Breaux said in a news release.
The Lady Tigers’ freshmen continued to contribute Friday. Lloimincia Hall’s 39.450 was good enough for second in the all-around, Rheagan Courville’s score of 39.400 tied her for third and Jessie Jordan’s 39.275 rounded out the top five.
Courville earned her team-leading ninth individual title by scoring a 9.925 to tie both her own season-high and Florida freshman Kytra Hunter for first on the balance beam.
Sophomore Sarie Morrison made the best of a two-week respite after foot surgery, returning to score her season-best 9.875 to lead the Lady Tigers on the uneven bars. Four Gators tied for first on the bars with scores of 9.900.
The Lady Tigers rode those two performances to season highs of 49.350 and 49.150 in the beam and bars, respectively. It was the team’s second highest tally on the beam, following only a 49.550 on March 13, 2005.
Hall scored a 9.900 for the third time to lead LSU in the floor exercise and Courville led the Tigers in vault with her score of 9.925.
Breaux said previously that she believes she’s coaching a 9.700-worthy team, and Friday’s season-best aggregate score showed that with some more work, the team’s potential could be realized.
“There’s still room for improvement and places we can get better, so I’m very excited and encouraged with how we fought and performed all night and where we can go from here,” Breaux said.
