After splitting the first two games of this weekend’s series against Appalachian State, the LSU baseball team looked for a win in the rubber match Sunday.
The Tigers struggled at the plate and starting pitcher Kurt McCune went three innings as LSU lost 11-1 to the Mountaineers.
“There’s really not much to say after a day like today,” Coach Paul Mainieri said. “We just thoroughly got whipped. They just totally outplayed us in every phase of the game.”
LSU (5-2) has not dropped a non-conference series since 2010 against Kansas.
The Tigers only mustered four hits, three of which came off ASU starter Rob Marcello. Marcello kept the LSU bats off balance all day, going 8.1 innings and striking out four.
McCune (1-1) gave up seven hits, two walks and three earned runs.
“They (Appalachian State) came out to play and we didn’t,” McCune said. “They got a good start on us.”
LSU looks to rebound Tuesday as the team takes on Grambling at Alex Box Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
