Student Government passed two resolutions to create an awards account and an action program to establish an SG scholarship aid program for students.
According to the resolution for the Student Government Awards Account, SG will be able to transfer its funds to the Office of Bursar Operations so scholarships can be applied to the designated students’ fee bill.
“Students will be able to have a scholarship put directly on their fee bill from Student Government,” said Humanities and Social Sciences Senator Andrea Neal.
Neal also wrote the resolution to create the Ideas to Action Program to provide a $250 scholarship to students from the Student Government Awards Account.
Under this program, students can visit the SG website to submit ideas for things SG could implement. The heads of each SG branch would select one idea during mid-terms and finals weeks and award the scholarship to the student who submitted the idea.
“As a history major, $250 is pretty much all of my books [paid],” Neal said, “So this is something that’s really going to make a difference to students.”
Senate plans to implement the program in Fall 2013, and will allocate $5,000 to allow the program to run for 5 years. Neal said this is SG’s first scholarship program.
