With the first month of the 2013 fiscal year nearing its end, the University is currently operating on an unofficial budget.
The budget will not be presented until the September 7 meeting of the Board of Supervisors. The University will be spending unapproved funds until the board finalizes the budget, according to Bob Kuhn, associate vice chancellor for Budget and Planning
Kuhn said if the budget is approved, no departments would be cut or faculty lost. There also wouldn’t be any across-the-board cuts. In fact, the University’s total operating budget increased $4.1 million from the 2012 fiscal year.
Kuhn said increasing enrollment rates and the ability to increase tuition are tremendous assets in difficult economic times.
“One great thing is that enrollment has increased this year,” he said. “That allows us to see positive results from raising tuition. If the University hadn’t seen an increase in tuition, well it wouldn’t be good.” ____ Contact Joshua Bergeron at [email protected]
