LSU football fans can now count down the hours until Wednesday’s National Signing Day, and the Tigers have just two spots left open for the 2012 recruiting class.
Quarterback Jeremy Liggins and safety Corey Thompson pledged their services to LSU on Monday night.
The LSU staff made its final efforts last weekend to solidify the 2012 class with crucial in-home visits. Additionally, three prospects spent the weekend on campus for official visits.
The Tigers were still looking to sign a quarterback after five-star Gunner Kiel committed to Notre Dame at the start of the school year.
LSU got its wish. Liggins committed Monday night in front of family and a host of Ole Miss fans in Oxford, Miss. Reports late last week had Liggins, a three-star prospect per both Rivals.com and Scout.com, eliminating LSU from contention.
Thompson, originally a Texas A&M commit, flipped for LSU coach Les Miles and company late Monday night. The defensive back received an in-home visit last Friday from LSU coaches.
The Missouri City, Texas, safety wrapped up his recruitment with an official visit to College Station, Texas, this weekend.
Fellow LSU commit John Thomas was among the recruits to visit campus last weekend. Following his visit, the Airline High School tight end said he will honor his commitment to the Tigers but will not sign until April, due to academic concerns.
The Tigers also hosted three-star safety commit Jerquinick Sandolph last weekend.
Three-star safety Trae Elston, from Oxford, Ala., split the final weekend of recruiting between visits to Oklahoma State and LSU.
“Things have been pretty mum from [Elston’s] side,” said Shea Dixon of Tiger Sports Digest. “A lot of people think he could end up at either LSU or Ole Miss.”
Elston’s high school teammate Kwon Alexander made an unofficial visit to Baton Rouge last weekend. The four-star linebacker has an offer from LSU and took his official visit in October.
“[Elston and Alexander] have a lot of pressure to stay in Alabama,” said BayouBengalInsider’s Derek Ponamsky.
