Tweets by two LSU wide receivers Wednesday caused buzzing among fans about potential transfers or departures for the NFL.
Junior Russell Shepard and sophomore Kadron Boone posted tweets Wednesday that hinted they will be leaving LSU, but Sports Information Director Michael Bonnette said he had no knowledge of the two players’ plans.
Shepard said in a tweet, “Thanks for your support Tiger Nation…but I have to do what’s best for my family and myself…Geaux Tigers.”
Boone said in a tweet, “Da decision is made and is in process…Mind made up n sticking to it.”
The rumors came on the same day Les Miles announced wide receivers coach Billy Gonzales would take the offensive coordinator position at a Big 10 school, likely Illinois.
Shepard, a Houston native, started 13 games in three seasons at LSU, recording 52 receptions for 473 yards and five touchdowns. The former five-star recruit came to LSU as a quarterback but transitioned to wide receiver full-time before his sophomore season.
Shepard tweeted his displeasure after the Tigers’ 21-0 loss to Alabama in the BCS National Championship, saying “OMG I played 3 plays…”
Boone, a native of Ocala, Fla., played in 26 games through two seasons, recording 11 receptions for 134 yards and two touchdowns.
