Anchor [Steven Powell]: Everyone likes a winner. It especially holds true when prospective students choose an academic institution. And with a successful football team, Reveille Radio Reporter Marylee Williams explains how success goes beyond the football field.
Reporter [Marylee Williams]: Associate Director for Undergraduate Admission and Student Aid, Mandy Hoffman, said when the football team does well it increases the presence of the University’s national brand.
New Freshman enrollment data from 2003-2011 show 2004 and 2008 as two of the largest enrollment increases — years after LSU had won the BCS National Championship.
The Office of Admission took advantage of the 2011 football season by holding recruiting events before bowl games, showcasing the University’s academics and school spirit.
On January 8, the University attracted more than 600 students at a New Orleans recruiting event.
Hoffman said losing the Allstate BCS National Championship makes the Office of Admissions’ work a little harder, since the University doesn’t have that National Championship to showcase.
