A seven-run deficit was no problem for LSU on Saturday.
The Tigers (27-16-1, 8-11-1) were down 7-0 going into the bottom of the sixth inning, but LSU came back and defeated No. 12 South Carolina, 11-10, in 11 innings in Alex Box Stadium.
The victory secured LSU’s first Southeastern Conference series victory since the Tigers took two of three from Alabama on April 5-6.
The teams went into the 10th inning tied at 9. South Carolina (31-13, 11-9) scored a run in the top of the 11th inning while LSU scored two in the bottom half to win the game.
Junior Chris McGhee scored the winning run — his last of three runs on the day — on a fielding error by South Carolina second baseman Scott Wingo.
Sophomore Blake Dean led the way for the Tigers, going 3-for-4 in the game. Freshman DJ LeMahieu and junior Derek Helenihi each had two hits.
The Tigers and Gamecocks conclude their three-game series Sunday at 1 p.m. in Alex Box Stadium.
