Regarding Drew Belle Zerby’s column about Oliver Stone’s George W. Bush biopic, I can think of at least one purpose for it. Let’s face it. This is a good university, but also a notorious party school. I see people going out Wednesday nights who complain of “colds” the next morning to get out of class. Right. Colds. So this film is more about W’s years in college, right? And he’s known for sowing more than his share of wild oats, right? Wait, and he’s doing a bad job as president, according to every person I ask. Well then, maybe this film will contain an unintended message for college students who do too much wild-oat sowing and not enough due-paying. It’s trite but true: We are the future. Fun is fun, but adulthood is not a button in our minds that we can press to eliminate all of our bad habits. We cannot get drunk every night one week and then turn into honor students and good leaders the next. So, students, the next time we think about our president and his upcoming biopic, it might be in our own – and the country’s – best interest to end that thought with a promise: I will be better than him.
