The LSU track and field teams return to action this weekend at the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships.
To qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships, an athlete must finish in the top five of an individual event or in the top three while running for a relay team. The outdoor championships are scheduled for June 11-14 in Des Moines, Iowa.
“We really look at this meetas the first stage of the NCAA Championships,” LSU coach Dennis Shaver said in a news release. “No team is able to win a national championship this weekend, but it can put a team in a good position two weeks from now.”
Both the Tigers and Lady Tigers a two-time defending champions of the Mideast Regional. The women’s team has won the regional four times and has never finished lower than second in the event.
LSU will have 23 women, 22 men and both 4×100 and 4×400-relay teams competing in the event.
The NCAA Mideast Regional Championships begin Friday.
