The LSU women’s track and field team captured the Southeastern Conference Outdoor championship Sunday in Auburn, Ala.
The men’s team finished second in the event. Senior sprinter Richard Thompson was the star on the men’s side, as he recorded the second fastest time of 2008 in the 100-meter dash.
Thompson finished the race in 9.93 seconds. His teammate Trindon Holliday posted a 10.05-second mark to finish second.
LSU’s Kelly Ann Baptiste, Juanita Broaddus and Samantha Henry finished first, second and third, respectively, in the women’s 100-meter dash.
Baptiste, Henry and Broaddus also finished second, third and fourth in the women’s 200-meter dash. LSU sophomore LaTavia Thomas took first place in the 800-meter run.
LSU returns to action Friday in the NCAA Mideast Regionals in Fayetteville, Ark.
