Second baseman Ryan Schimpf blasted two home runs Saturday afternoon as No. 22 LSU extended its season-long winning streak to 11 games with a 16-4 win against Mississippi State.
The Tigers (34-16-1, 14-11-1) have scored double-digit runs in three of their past four games. Their current win streak is the longest since LSU won 13 in a row during the national championship season in 2000, and LSU’s eight-game conference winning streak is the longest since 1997.
Junior Blake Martin pitched seven innings for LSU and picked up his fourth win of the season, striking out eight batters and allowing only two hits.
Schimpf finished the game 4-for-4 with four runs and four RBIs.
LSU and Mississippi State close out their three-game series Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. The game will be the final regular-season contest played in Alex Box Stadium.
