(AP) — Gov. Bobby Jindal has partially frozen state government hiring, hoping to save more than $25 million this year. Jindal’s top budget adviser, Commissioner of Administration Angele Davis, says the freeze on state hiring will create savings in case the state’s income projections shrink this year. She also says the freeze will help prepare the state for a tight upcoming budget year, which already has a projected more than $1 billion shortfall. Hiring of direct patient care workers at the LSU public hospitals and public safety workers are exempt from the freeze. —-Contact The Daily Reville’s news staff at [email protected]
