NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Turnout figures from Tuesday’s election in Louisiana held one surprise — there were fewer voters than expected in the historic election — but they also appear to confirm the state’s population is stagnant compared to other states. And while New Orleans remains well below its pre-Katrina population of around 454,000, it is clear it has gained some residents since the last official Census estimate in July 2007, said New Orleans-based demographer Greg Rigamer, who released the first draft of a study on the turnout Thursday.—-Contact The Daily Reveille’s news staff at [email protected]
