NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Congressional offices around Louisiana report getting thousands of ticket requests for the January inauguration of Barack Obama as president, but they have only hundreds to distribute.
House and Senate offices around the country report being swamped with demand, even though allocations to each office are in the range of 200 to 500.
Sen. Mary Landrieu’s office has reported 12,000 requests. Sen. David Vitter’s office last week also reported several thousand requests; As of last Thursday, Rep. William Jefferson had requests for some 2,500 tickets.
Congressional offices are trying to cope, with some limiting the number of per-person requets and others taking pains to make sure tickets can be distributed on a first-called basis.
