BATON ROUGE – The 1988 LSU football team, champions of the Southeastern Conference, will be honored at halftime of the LSU vs. Tulane football game on November 1 in recognition of the 20th anniversary of its conference title.
The Auburn game was the highlight of the season as a late touchdown pass from Tommy Hodson to Eddie Fuller vaulted the Tigers to a 7-6 win and resulted in an eruption from the Tiger Stadium crowd that was so thunderous it registered on a seismograph on the LSU campus. The game has come to be known as “The Earthquake Game.”
With an offense captained by Hodson, center Todd Coutee and tackle Ralph Norwood and a defense captained by linebacker Eric Hill and All-American defensive back Greg Jackson, the Tigers finished the season 8-4 on the year and 6-1 in SEC play, finishing the year with an appearance in the Hall of Fame Bowl in Tampa, Fla.
