A female University student was struck by a vehicle Wednesday morning while she walked across Nicholson Extension on a crosswalk near Patrick F. Taylor Hall. She remained in serious condition late Wednesday night.LSU Police Department spokesman Maj. Clements, 22, of Homer, La., said LSUPD spokesman Capt. Russell Rogé. Rabalais said the investigation is ongoing.”The driver of the vehicle as well as the pedestrian … were both on cell phones,” Rabalais said. “When the pedestrian got in the crosswalk and realized the vehicle wasn’t going to stop, it was too late.”Rabalais said the vehicle struck her 20 feet from where she was knocked. She was unconscious until Emergency Medical Service responders arrived and transported her to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital.Rabalais said the officer who responded to the accident was at the hospital to check the student’s condition. The identification of the driver was not available by press time because LSUPD is waiting for a complete report to be filed.Student Government President Colorado Robertson said he spoke with the Dean of Students office and will be taking care of the student who was hit. Robertson said they will offer the victim with assistance, excuses she may need and other services they can make available to her.—-Contact J.J. Alcantara at [email protected]
