A recent Brookings Institution report named Baton Rouge No. 1 for job productivity growth out of the top 100 largest metro areas in the U.S.
The report said from 2001-05, the city’s annualized percent change in gross domestic product per job growth was 5.08 percent – more than double the national average of 2.26 percent.
The rankings were based on growth in productivity, such as creating good jobs and raising incomes, and sustainability, such as expanding economic and educational opportunities and the city’s sensitivity to environmental issues.
San Jose, Calif., and Sarasota, Fla., were ranked second and third on the list.
