Members of Student Government gathered in Free Speech Alley Tuesday to kick off “Straight Talk with SG,” an event that gives students the chance to speak directly with their SG representatives.Colorado Robertson, SG president, said SG will be in Free Speech Alley from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. every other week, alternating between Tuesdays and Wednesdays.”We told people during our campaign that we wouldn’t be stuck in our office,” Robertson said. “We just need to get involved and be visible.”Robertson, SG Vice President Shannon Bates and about seven SG senators handed out freezie pops to students and answered questions. The SG corporate sponsorship account paid for the freezie pops.Robertson said the main concerns he heard from students were about parking and the bus system.”This way we can talk to them and tell them we’re working on it face to face,” Robertson said.Ryan Thibadeaux, communication studies senior, said he plans to stop by again next time.”It’s right here in the middle of everything,” Thibadeaux said. “I probably wouldn’t go out of my way to talk to them otherwise.”Thibadeaux said the event was informative.”Apparently [Chancellor Michael Martin] is to blame for the increase in freshmen [enrollment],” Thibadeaux said. “And they promised me the bus system would be doing better soon.”—-Contact Katie Kennedy at [email protected]
