The sole on-campus dining option during Hurricane Gustav is now closed. The University previously said through a broadcast e-mail that the 459 Commons Dining Hall would remain open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday. But the doors to the dining hall were locked at 9 a.m. Monday morning. According to a sign on the door, the facility may not reopen today.”459 Commons will be closed until danger of the storm has passed,” the sign read. “We’re scheduled to re-open on Tuesday, Sept. 2 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. to serve all students and essential employees on campus.”When asked about this closure, Director of LSU Dining David Heidke referred reporters to LSU’s Emergency Operations Center. The EOC supplied all dorms with water and MREs, according to Robin Kistler, the EOC’s public information officer.Kistler said all campus buildings are on “stand down” as Gustav moves through.”We’re asking everybody to remain inside,” she said. “It’s entirely too dangerous for them to be outside right now.”Kistler said the EOC will access the damage of the storm after it moves through and then decide when the 459 Commons will re-open.This article was updated at 10:00 a.m.—-Contact The Daily Reveille’s news staff at [email protected]
