Approximately 94 percent of local Cox Communications customers have cable internet, television and phone services restored after Hurricane Gustav’s Labor Day landfall damaged communication lines across the state.Local customers without cable are expected to have services restored by the end of the week, said Sharon Kleinpeter, Cox Communications Greater Louisiana vice president of government and public affairs. Many customers will have cable restored before then. Hurricane Ike’s landfall Saturday did not significantly affect local Cox customers, Kleinpeter said. However, strong winds and rain from the second storm prevented most Cox technicians from restoring services for one and a half days. “There are still some individual problems like a tree falling on a drop in a customer’s yard,” said Kleinpeter. “We’re dealing with this on a pretty broad scale, but by the end of the day it will be less customers without services.””A good majority” of Baton Rouge area customers lost Cox’s services immediately following Gustav, said Kleinpeter.Kleinpeter said 99 percent of local Cox business customers have cable restored.
