Chart toppers Gavin DeGraw and Sean Kingston are coming to the University today at 7 p.m. to celebrate the Tigers’ first 2008 home SEC football game.Homecoming Week and Gold Fest were originally scheduled to coincide, but Hurricane Gustav caused Homecoming to be pushed back to November. Other planned appearances include football coach Les Miles, the LSU cheerleaders, Mike the Tiger and the Tiger Girls. Tickets will be on sale at the door and are $6 for students and $11 for the general public.”This is the first Gold Fest, and it was originally scheduled on the same day for the Rock ‘n’ Roar Pep Rally, but when Homecoming moved, we had already worked everything out with the artists,” said Nancy Little, strategic marketer for the office of media relations. “So instead, we are celebrating the first SEC home game. LSU needs a celebration after Gustav.”Another concert is scheduled for Homecoming Week, but artists performing haven’t been released yet.”We have to get past Thursday first,” said Staci Pepitone, assistant to the vice chancellor.DeGraw and Kingston were chosen during the summer by a coordinating committee, which included Student Government Vice President Shannon Bates and former Vice President Josh King.”I sent e-mails to [the group] this summer, and they would approve or disprove who was suggested,” Pepitone said. “It all depended on who was touring at the time.”The concert is open to everyone, so the artists chosen were meant to appeal to a diverse crowd.”We were trying to please the LSU student body,” Little said. “The artists had to have a certain level of decor.”Students may have recognized advertisements in the dining halls, library and campus media.”I definitely want to hear what Les has to say,” said Anthony Martel, mechanical engineering sophomore.EA Sports will also be in attendance. At 3 p.m., participants can play NCAA Football in front of the PMAC for a chance to win tickets to the Rose Bowl in January. There will be 16 video kiosks available for players. The PMAC has a maximum capacity of 5,000 people for the event, and Little hopes to fill it.”We’ve sold about 1,000 in pre-sale tickets,” Little said. “I’m expecting a good turnout.”—-Contact Ashley Norsworthy at [email protected]
